Examples of some license application questions are below:
Q: How soon can I apply for the license after passing the exam?
A: A candidate must wait a minimum of five business days before completing the licensing process and paying state licensing fees.
Q: Where do I go to apply for the license for the first time?
A: Candidates will apply for the license with the National Insurance Producer Registry (www.NIPR.com). The Department of Insurance created step-by-step directions to assist with the application process, which can be viewed here.
Q: What if I’m adding another line of authority? Do I need to apply for the license?
A: A current licensee who is merely adding a line of authority to an existing license does not need to apply at NIPR or pay additional licensing fees. The Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) will be automatically notified of the added line of authority and make an updated license available to the producer.
Q: How much are the fees to apply for the license?
A: The applicant will pay a licensing fee of $215, which could be prorated depending on how long their license is valid.
Q: Do I need to be sponsored by a company to obtain a license?
A: When a candidate gets an insurance producer license, Illinois does not require the licensee to be sponsored by or work for an insurance company.
