Most states have a deadline of December 31st to complete education and renew their license. However, some states have an earlier deadline*, and it is important to see the State-Specific education requirements from the NMLS for details.
The NMLS has a SMART deadline set each year to help loan originators complete their continuing education requirements in time to ensure course completion is reported to the NMLS. A licensee cannot submit their renewal application until the course completion is reported to the NMLS. Review the SMART deadline at the NMLS website.
Note: Any licensee taking a CE course in the same calendar year in which their active license expires (i.e. not an unlicensed individual) will need on-time CE even if they complete after their state’s deadline.
