NMLS-Approved Pre-License – MLO SAFE Test Expiration Policy

A state-licensed loan originator who fails to maintain a valid license for five years or longer must retake the SAFE MLO Test. Suppose a mortgage loan originator leaves the mortgage industry or passes the test but does not obtain a license or active federal registrations for five consecutive years. In that case, the previously passed test will expire and must retest to obtain licensure. Details of this are available on the NMLS website.

If a candidate needs to retake this exam, they can review the SAFE MLO Test article for details.
