NC Real Estate Prelicensing – License Requirements

A broker license is required for any person or business entity who transacts real estate brokerage business for compensation as an agent for another is needed to hold a real estate license.

To qualify for an individual real estate broker license, a person must do the following:

  • Applicant be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be a United States citizen, a non-citizen national, or a qualified non-citizen under federal law or be authorized to work in the US.
  • Have a Social Security Number.
  • Satisfy the required education requirements.
  • File eligibility application with a completed background check.
  • Pass the state-licensing examination.
  • Possesses the requisite character for licensure.
