IL Real Estate Pre-License - Reciprocity Information

Illinois offers reciprocity for licensees if already licensed in some other states. The current list Illinois has reciprocity with is available here.

The applicant will need to fill out a reciprocity application available here.

It is recommended to contact the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) to discuss specific licensing requirements as it may be required to complete some IDFPR-approved coursework and examinations may be required to earn a license in Illinois.

For the state examination with PSI, to apply for licensure in Illinois based on reciprocity, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old; and
  • Hold an active broker’s license or equivalent by examination in a state with a reciprocal agreement with IDFPR.
  • Certification by licensing agency/board form must be filled out by the state where the candidate currently holds a license. This form can be found within the IDFPR Reciprocity Application.
