IL Insurance Continuing Education - Reinstatement Information

The Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) allows a 1-year grace period from when a license expires to reinstate the license back to active status. The licensee must complete any continuing education that hasn't been completed from their last renewal and pay a renewal fee and late fee to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).

The renewal fee is $215 + a late fee of $215 = $430 paid to NIPR after the required continuing education is completed and reported.

After the 1-year grace period, the licensee will lose their license, and they must start over with the pre-licensing education requirements to obtain the license again.

Note: The Illinois legislature passed a bill in June 2021 that increases the producer licensing fee. Effective July 1, 2021, the IDOI enforced the increased producer licensing fee to $215.
