IL Insurance Continuing Education - License Renewal Details

All Insurance Producers who are domiciled in Illinois must complete 24 credit hours of continuing education every two years due the last day of their birth month*.  This includes 21 credit hours of general credit and 3-hours of a live ethics program. Real Estate Institute offers the complete 24-hour package with the 21 credit hours of general credit as a self-study course and the option of 3-hours ethics as an in-person or an online webinar.

The Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI) requires that the education be insurance-related but may or may not be related to the person’s specialty. Therefore, general credit hours offered at Real Estate Institute satisfy all license types.

Licensees can “carry over” up to 12 hours of general credit to their next renewal period. Any additional hours completed will not “carry over.”

When the required education is completed and reported, the licensee will need to pay their $215 renewal fee to the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) online before their license deadline here. A licensee may only renew their license if the credit hours have been processed and are posted with NIPR. This process may take up to 5 business days, so a licensee must complete their continuing education at least ten days in advance with Real Estate Institute, as we report every business day.

Note: Illinois Public Adjusters renewal deadline is NOT the last date of the birth month.
